WOMEN & EDUCATION
Women in rural of Nepal are still illiterate. Women are counting with finger tips calculating in abacus system. UCSS aims to make them better literate so that they could able to perform general calculations (accounting for daily life), they could think about environment, sanitations, health, culture and advocates about their children and their problem. Most of the women are managing daily works and responsible for their family. If a women could be educated, children will be taken care well, they can get good education. The life style can be developed. Realizing these truth, UCSS is working for women's literacy program.
PROGRAM DETAILS
Location
The program is focused in East Helambu, under buffer zone of Langtang National Park, Sindhupalchow Dist, National Park. Click here for map. Currently program is implemented in five VDCs - Golche VDC, Gumba VDC, Baramchi VDC, Pangtang VDC, Selang VDC.
Propose of
Program To make women literate about health, family, environment, sanitation, children's education, social development is the main propose of this program. Women are very poor in calculating for daily life expenses and income. They are counting on ginger tips and calculating in abacus system. UCSS is working to make them able to read and write and improve their calculating skill.
Program Highlights
Literacy
Program UCSS is conducting a short term literacy program on different subject (which meet propose) in different time. Mainly it's focusing educations, health, children & nutrition, children's education, environment, culture.
Non-formal
Education UCSS conduct long term program in contribution of donors. Due to economic problem UCSS is unable to continue such program. However, UCSS develops proposals and submit donors to get the fund to implement such program. Recently UCSS is developing "Literacy to Golche VDC". This program focused on women's education.

A Proposed Program - "Literacy to Golche VDC."
Geographical focused in Golche VDC, Sindhupalchok Dist, East Helambu, under buffer zone of Langtang National Park. In Golche VDC 4500 people live in 900 house (5 person per family), where only 9% of people are literate. Tamang a quasi Buddhist people dominates this VDC. There are 90 percent Tamang, 2 percent occasional cast people, 6 percent Chhettries and Brahmin's people and 2 percents are other cast people.
